"Quinta Das Escadas Celestiais (loosely translated: 'Stairway to Heaven'), is a delightful, peaceful haven, set in the mountains above the town of Gois, in Central Portugal. It's believed to lie on ancient lay lines, and certainly has a spiritual feel. The air locally is intoxicating, free from any pollutants and laden with the smell of wild herbs, pine and eucalyptus. For anyone looking for a stress-free environment, look no further!

Sit on the sun-drenched roof terrace, and watch the birds of prey majestically float by, and by night watch the spectacular starlit heavens. Or sit in the lounge, and survey your domain in the comfort of the large leather sofa (seating for 9!).

Previous owners have lived completely 'off grid', and farmed the fields and eaten the fruit from the myriad varieties of fruit trees. We have upgraded the farmhouse to modern standards, so you can have the best of both worlds (i.e. modern comfort with rustic charm). The farm comes fully furnished, with predominantly IKEA furniture, combined with locally sourced pieces, like the rustic dining table (seats 8).

This makes the perfect bolt hole for writers and artists, as well as stressed business people. But there is good internet access (Nos) for those needing to keep in touch with the outside world. We have run our business in the UK from there, with no difficulties. The farm would make a great AirBnB business.

Apart from the 4 valley fields, the farm extends extensively up the valley side, providing plenty of space to build a magnificent garden or plant crops. The ancient terraced walls can be a little unsafe, so children and older people need to be supervised, but a walk from the farmhouse to the pond to watch the newts and dragonflies, is a real must.

There is evidence that the farm once supported an extended family, as there are two other (derelict) properties (both of which we understand are available to purchase). Between the main properties is the ancient communal bread oven, which we have partially renovated, and is great for cooking pizzas, and big enough to roast a wild board (who are nocturnal visitors, along with deer, to the farm).

There is plenty to see and do in the local area, and the farm is equidistant to the magnificent beaches of the Silver Coast to the west, and the ski resorts of the Serra da Estrelas to the east. Both are about 1hr 20 minutes away. The local town is Gois where you can find a variety of good restaurants, supermarkets, banks etc., as well as the famous river beaches, where you can sun bathe, swim, canoe, fish or have a refreshing beer in the riverside cafes.

The farm is about 1hr 30 minutes from Porto airport (and a visit to Porto is an absolute must) and 1.40 minutes from Lisbon airport. Other places a short drive away include Aveiro, dubbed 'The Venice of Portugal',or for surfers, a trip to Nazare is a real must, the waves are truly amazing!"
